Joseph was listed on the payroll of soldiers at Romney VA and
Winchester VA during Lord Dunmore's War. he was listed on the roll of
George Washington's company August 1, 1776. He was listed on both
Joseph Bowman's and John Tipton's roll. He was described as being 21
years of age when he joined the army in the County of Maidstone VA, 5
feet 8 inches tall and pitted with small pox on the right shoulder
